Anthony Lister

Enigma

Born in Australia in 1979, Anthony Lister is one of today's leading figures in urban art. Based in Australia's capital, he began painting in the streets at an early age, before graduating from the Queensland School of Art in 2001. It was his arrival in New York and his apprenticeship with Max Gimblett that marked a turning point in his production, fusing urban art, pop art and expressionism. It was in the Lowbrow movement that the artist drew his inspiration and firmly anchored his work. Indeed, the artist hijacks the codes of popular culture, most often taken from the world of American comics (Ghost Rider, Batman, Spiderman...) to offer a critical, hard-hitting vision of society. His works, which combine unstructured superheroes and grotesque figures, play on blurred lines, shadows and energetic strokes. This unique aesthetic, for example, earned him a contract with Vogue Australia. His work on urban fabrics can be seen on walls all over the world (Milan, New York, Los Angeles...). He is also represented by numerous galleries and appears to be Australia's most collected artist.
