Figuration libre & tribal art

An artist from Rouen, born February 24, 1978. Trained in circus arts and a free thinker, he naturally entered the art world through free figuration. In the early days, his style was reminiscent of Keith Haring, with its simplicity, fluidity and repetitive use of symbols. The burgeoning neo-pop movement soon gave him the opportunity to express his sense of humor and misappropriation by creating mash-ups. The latter, with their anachronistic references and characters from his own imagination, are highly complex. During this period, his work combines both manual and vector-based drawing, a process that allows him to explore combinations and techniques that were hitherto little associated. In September 2015, he participated in the creation of the first Outsiders gallery in Rouen.

Over the next three years, Cumbone deepened his typographic work, notably around "Mantraffitis", returning to the fundamentals without abandoning digital research. A new workshop in 2018 enabled him to take a 180° turn and begin a second cycle in his career, confirming his membership of the figuration libre movement. His style is characterized by wild, unbridled work brimming with historical references ranging from cave art to the Renaissance... Large-scale works on imposing recycled supports are presented, mixing aerosols, inks, pastels and acrylics with the insolence and spirit that characterize him.
