Pictorial mosaics
Born in Alsace in 1992, YRAK's background as a mosaicist and tile setter has given him a rigor and precision that shine through in his work. His compositions, reminiscent of the meticulous assembly of tesserae, are part of a geometric abstraction in which a complex interplay of shapes and colors structures his linen canvases. Each of his series is an opportunity to question and rethink his chromatic palette, which he creates himself with particular attention to contrasts. The matrix of his work lies in the Indian ink tracings in which the artist always conceals the letters Y, R, A and K, inviting the viewer to gradually discover these signature elements. The use of Indian ink and acrylic creates an incipient duality: the ink captures and reflects light, while the paint absorbs it, giving her works a singular depth. For Yrak, the meaning of his work is born in the eyes of others. He names his paintings once they're finished, according to the first image that comes to mind, but leaves everyone free to project their own interpretation.
